Job Description

The SR Systems Engineer is responsible for installing, maintaining and enforcing the overall architecture design of the companies distributed infrastructure, including but not limited to, processes, applications, strategic road maps, and technical infrastructure. This position is expected to understand all solution components and how they inter-operate to support business processes and management information needs. Will be responsible for interface and integration strategies with external systems and processes. Candidate will also communicate solutions at all levels of customer and AAP management.
The Systems Engineer III acts independently under general directions and no supervision, with the ability to provide senior technical leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Installation, administration, tuning and planning for disaster recovery of infrastructure components (Application servers, Clients, Server Hardware, network, and databases).
• Interpret business/product requirements and specify technical requirements by creating technology specifications, technical drawings and presentations.
• Provide IT/Business leadership with strategic roadmap/advice, including Stack Support updates, product features, vendor recommendations and future direction of technology.
• Lead and coordinate activities for incident management, service development, service transition, and continual service improvement of store systems infrastructure services.
• Analyze all aspects of the existing infrastructure and recommend modifications that will enhance application performance, working with various departments to resolve issues (Networking, UNIX Systems Engineering, Mid-Range, Data Security, etc.).
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with peer teams. Build relationships with enterprise architecture team, and design to best meet the standards of our multi-tenant architecture.
• Recommend, improve and document systems engineering processes and procedures.
• Collaborate with other Systems Engineers.
• Mentor junior team members, and assist with on-boarding new team members.
• Take an active leadership role with the continuous service improvement process, suggesting ways that the team can improve service levels, technology, or processes.
• Maintain and enhance existing support, network, and system management utilities.
• Participate in an on-call 24x7 rotation, or weekend work along with other Systems Engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated understanding of software engineering, systems engineering, or Information Systems Management.
• Practical knowledge developing scripts or applications to automate systems implementation, configuration, or management.
• Information Systems Management experience in a distributed environment (retail or equivalent).
• Experienced working within standard project management methodologies.
• Proven experience at handling multiple assignments and using strong prioritization skills.
• Experience with middleware and other messaging tools.
• Experience using modern network enabled relational databases.
• Mastery of several modern operating systems or platforms.
• Mastery of Systems Infrastructure engineering in a large distributed environment.
• Mastery of Windows server and client operating systems, Active Directory.
• Experienced with modern point of sale systems, technologies and peripherals. 
• Proven leadership and coaching skills in a team situation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; and
• 5-7 years’ experience in Systems Engineering; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
